I have been writing about small business for USATODAY.com for over 20 years, and have been a small business owner myself for even longer. Over the years, I have gotten to know a lot of small business owners, and I’ve noticed that we have many things in common.

We are typically enthusiastic, hard-working, creative, risk-taking go-getters. Small business people tend to thrive in unstructured work environments. And, when it comes to technology, we have much in common as well. I would say that the average small business owner really appreciates all that technology can do, and how it has made our lives as businesspeople easier, more effective, and profitable.

That’s the good news.

The bad news is that we really hate when our technology gets complicated, or time-consuming, or doesn’t work as advertised. We would rather spend our time running and growing our business than thinking and worrying about our tech.
