Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – 12th October 2018
This game sits at the top of many gamers’ lists for releases this fall. The 5th installment in the Black Ops series and the 15th in the Call of Duty series, CoD Black Ops 4 offers a battle royale mode in addition to the popular Zombie multiplayer mode. The game marks the return of Specialists, unique soldier characters with special abilities and traits, and some of the specialists are returning tol characters from Black Ops 3. It will also feature remakes of five fan-favorite maps, Jungle, Slums, Summit, Firing Range, and the wildly popular Nuketown. Multiplayer has also been reworked with various changes for more tactical and teamwork gameplay. From the response to the Beta, this game is going to be a must buy when it becomes available on October 12th.
Red Dead Redemption 2 – 26th October 2018
This is without a doubt one of the most highly anticipated releases of the year. Red Dead Redemption 2 from Rockstar Games, the makers of Grand Theft Auto, Max Payne and many others, is set to be released worldwide toward the end of the year. It has been 8 years since the release of the first Red Dead Redemption, and we have waited patiently for a sequel. However, Red Dead 2’s story will be a prequel, set twelve years prior to Red Dead Redemption. The game is due to be set in yet another substantial interactive open world, and, like its predecessor, your actions in the game are expected to influence how NPC’s will respond. The game has been teased with trailers, but more importantly, it has been teased to GTA V’s incredibly active online community, with the likes of a discoverable wild west style revolver to pique players interests. The game is set to release in October 2018, and whether you’re a GTA fan, an open world enthusiast, or simply just want to play as a cowboy, this will be a game for you.
Mavericks Proving Grounds – Initial Release 2018
Mavericks Proving Grounds from Automaton Games is an ambitious take on the battle royale genre. With a wealth of titles incorporating a Battle Royale mode, Mavericks Proving Grounds is aiming to stand out from the crowd by going bigger than the rest. Set in post-WW3 United Kingdom, the aim is to have massive, tactical and dynamic 1000 player battles (no that’s not a typo) in a continuously moving player world. This concept was formed by James Thompson, their CEO, who in his teens developed Runescape software, before moving to the likes of JAGEX and then on to form Automaton Games. While still in early beta, this title looks to be something extraordinary, the pure size and ambition involved in the project leads us to believe this could be one to watch out for.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate – 7th December
Super Smash Bros is one of the most timeless games from Nintendo. This title, formally unveiled at E3 2018, is expected to be available for Nintendo Switch later this year, and it has been announced as an entirely new installment to the Super Smash Bros series built for the Nintendo Switch. Expect almost all the characters from the previous installments to be making a return, as well as a collection of new ones. While the game will be compatible with many different Switch controllers, Nintendo is expected to release customizable Gamecube controllers for the more nostalgic players. This is a game everyone is excited to see, no matter what age or skill level, and it will be a must-have for Switch owners.
Battlefield V – 20th November
Despite a turbulent couple of releases for EA, Battlefield V is set to be one of their best titles yet. Developed by DICE, the fast-paced FPS is expected to have a higher intensity than its previous titles. With an added layer of complexity to Operations in combination with intelligent map design, the dynamics are set to change, creating more cooperation between players and squads to achieve the final objective collectively. The early access has been played by a large number of streamers on Twitch, and from what we have seen, it looks better than we could have hoped. With stunning scenery and fantastic detail adding to the overall aesthetic, the game is set in WW2 but is covering the less renowned battle locations, including Norway and the city of Rotterdam. The game is expected to release a Beta later in 2018 prior to the launch on October 16th, and we can’t wait to see it.
The latest Spiderman game is set to release exclusively on PS4, and although it was announced two years ago, Sony brought the game out at E3 this year. It has been developed by Insomniac Games, the makers of the Ratchet & Clank series, Sunset Overdrive, and the upcoming Spyro remake. This game looks like it could be a brilliant experience, although it has big boots to fill, with 2004 Spider-Man 2’s web-slinging still hailed as one of the most satisfying gaming experiences to date. The storyline behind the game is expected to be completely original, so with that and the update in graphics from previous games, this could be most immersive superhero game of 2018. The game is due to release for PS4 on September 7th, and will hopefully live up to all our expectations.
