Halloween is approaching and the horror genre has great games to offer for multiplayer fun. Most online games have a Halloween Event that players can get exclusive holiday skins or loot in games like Neverwinter, Apex Legends, Borderlands 3, and Fortnite. In this post, we’re highlighting 5 games that will put the chills and thrills into your Halloween gaming this year. From zombie hordes to world spanning horror, there’s a little something for every gamer on this list.
State of Decay 2
State of Decay 2 is an open world and “indie” zombie survival video game developed by Undead Labs and published by Microsoft Studios, and a sequel to 2013’s original State of Decay. Think of it as GTA meets the Sims via The Walking Dead.
Think of it as GTA meets the Sims via The Walking Dead. Your community members gain skills and have personalities that can clash and cause conflict. Helping other communities can be rewarding but some harbor ill intent your team. Starting off with 3 characters in your community, you struggle to find a base, supplies, weapons and more community members as you stave off hordes and freak zombies.
Endless re-playability, multiplayer co-op and some great DLC that increase the stakes and add customization to your survivors all combine to make this game a great Halloween title.
Remnant: From the Ashes
Remnant: From the Ashes is an action role-playing third person shooter video game developed by Gunfire Games and published by Perfect World Entertainment. Set in a strange post-apocalyptic world overrun by monster called the Root, players assume the role of as one of the last remnants of humanity. You can either team with up to two other players or make a go of it alone as you face down hordes of deadly enemies and epic bosses and try to retake the world.
The play style is similar to Dark Souls, but with the added ability to use ranged weapons. Every upgrade feels meaningful and can have an impact on the outcome of the next dungeon or mission. The difficulty scales, so it’s more of a challenge when you add one or two companions via multiplayer.
Difficult but never impossible, Remnant challenges you at every turn. If dark apocalyptic shooters are your jam, this is a must for Halloween.

Dead by Daylight
Dead by Daylight is an asymmetric survival horror game developed by Behaviour Interactive. One player takes on the role of the savage Killer, and the other four players play as Survivors, trying to escape the Killer and avoid being caught and, well, killed.
While avoiding the Killer, survivors must repair generators and open the gate to escape. Play style is different depending on whether you’re playing as a Survivor or Killer. The former views the world in 3rd person, allowing for a wider view of the action so they can effectively dodge and hide from the Killer; the latter has a 1st person view and is looking to destroy the generators, capture and sacrifice the Survivors to the Entity. The game continues until one or more of the Survivors escape or the Killer has sacrificed all the of them.
With a deep bench of playable characters including Mike Meyers (Halloween), Leatherface, the Demogorgon (from Stranger Things), Ash Williams, and Steve Harrington, to name a few, Dead by Daylight has a lot to offer. Gameplay is pretty straightforward but with different play styles, skills and characters to master, there is a lot of meat to this game.
Overwatch: Halloween Terror
Doctor Junkenstein is back for the annual Overwatch event that runs October 15th through November 4th.
During the yearly holiday, players can collect loot boxes with new Halloween themed skins, sprays and lines for their favorite Overwatch characters as well as play Doctor Junkenstein’s Revenge, which allows players to team up with three others to defend Adlersbrunn from a host of haunting horrors, including Junkenstein and his Monster, the mysterious Summoner, the bloodthirsty Reaper, and the devious Witch of the Wilds.
An annual favorite event, Halloween Terror offers one of the most fun alternative modes in the game in addition to the new skins. Check it out before it goes away in November.
World War Z
World War Z is a third-person shooter video game developed by Saber Interactive and published by Mad Dog Games.
Loosely based on the 2013 movie of the same name, this fast paced, frantic co-op zombie shooter is fun for up to four players. Gameplay is streamlined and straightforward but not too simplistic; with six classes to choose from and plenty of weapon upgrades, there is plenty of depth for repeat play.
Missions can be repetitive, but the number of zombies that horde and attack you is based on how much noise you make. A stealth approach is possible, resulting in fewer waves of zombies, but you may not want to take that approach: gunning everything down can be very satisfying.
The Zombies have classes common in zombie games like State of Decay and Left 4 Dead: screamers that alert other zombies, fast runners, hulks, and poison gas emitters up the challenge over regular dead-heads.
Fans of Left 4 Dead will be pleasantly surprised with World War Z. Grab a couple of friends and be ready for some frantic gameplay with this late-night creature feature.
